2020 Year Of The Rat Five Pound Brilliant Uncirculated Lunar Mint Pack Coin
The 2020 Year of the Rat brilliant uncirculated coin is the seventh release in The Royal Mint's lunar series collection. Formally known as the Shēngxiào Collection, the rat is the first animal in the 12-year cycle. But the rat has come midway through the series because The Royal Mint only began the series in 2014 with the Year of the Horse. These collectable cupro-nickel coins are inspired by the Chinese zodiac, its animals and their attributes. Each annual release has combined Chinese and British design elements and the Year of the Rat range is no different. They feature a reverse created by Patrick Lynch that shows a whiskered rat amid blossoms with the Chinese character for the rat to the left: '鼠'. Those born under this sign are said to be clever, adaptable and kind. Lynch was careful to refect some of these traits in his design, commenting: 'Rats are such intelligent creatures'. The obverse features Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, alongside the face value of Five Pounds. Your limited edition coin weighs 28.28 grams, measures 38.61 millimetres in diameter and is issued in a collectable Royal Mint coin sleeve.
