The BU Lion of England £5 coin is one of the first coins released in The Royal Mint’s Queen’s Beasts coin series, being released alongside the BU Unicorn of Scotland at the same time. These are the first Queen’s Beasts coins to be struck in cupronickel - previously they were only available in precious metals. The Lion of England is one of the prominent symbols in Britain today, taking its place on the official Royal Coat of Arms. Jody Clark took inspiration for his reverse design from the Lion of England statue at Westminster Abbey, and he majestically recreates it on the reverse of this coin. The crowned “King of the Beasts” is seen holding the shield of the Royal Arms with his left claw and roaring. This striking design also complement’s Clark’s engraving of the obverse, which shows the fifth UK coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. You’ll receive your Lion of England coin complete in the original Royal Mint coin folder, which has been specifically designed for the Brilliant Uncirculated version. The coin weighs 28.28 grams and has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres. Collect this attractive Five Pound coin today, available with free shipping to UK addresses.
