2021 Britannia One Ounce Gold Bullion Coin
24-carat gold one ounce 2021 Britannia bullion coin from The Royal Mint. The obverse of this investment coin features Jody Clark’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, facing right and wearing the George IV State Diadem. This is paired with Philip Nathan’s classic ‘standing Britannia’ design. It shows the female personification of the British Isles, her clothing caught in a strong wind. She holds a trident in one hand and a Union Jack shield in the other. At her feet, to the left, is a latent image: a security feature, alternately displaying a trident and a lock. The textured background is another innovation. Movement gives the effect of waves. Micro-text rings the figure, reading ‘DECUS ET TUTAMEN’. Britannia has been a feature of British coinage since Roman times and was reintroduced to our money during the reign of Charles II. She’s graced our coins continually for the last 350 years, a symbol of British pride and identity. These bullion coins display her image on 31.21 grams of 24-carat (999.9) gold. Their precious metal content makes 1oz gold Britannias VAT free and their status as UK legal tender (face value: £100) ensures that they are also Capital Gains Tax exempt.
