One-ounce platinum bullion coin from The Royal Mint featuring the Yale of Beaufort. The mythical yale has the spotted body of a goat or antelope as well as tusks and a lion’s tale. In English heraldry the yale is most closely associated with the Hosue of Beaufort: a noble family linked to the Lancastrian faction during the Wars of the Roses. Their portcullis symbol is displayed on a shield at the centre of this design. The Yale was among a menagerie of legendary beasts, sculpted for the coronation of Her Majesty the Queen by James Woodford. These provided the inspiration for The Royal Mint’s sprawling Queen’s Beasts collection which celebrates Elizabeth II’s royal and noble lineage with heraldic designs by Jody Clark. Coins in the Queen’s Beasts series have been offered in a range of metals and finishes but the platinum bullion line is particularly special: it’s the first such series offered in Pt by The Royal Mint. These investment coins have a face value of £100 and feature the chainmail textured background that distinguishes bullion Queen’s Beasts pieces from their proof counterparts. It’s struck in 31.21 grams of 999.5 platinum, equating to a pure platinum content of 31.10 grams. The Yale Of Beaufort reverse design is paired with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth, also by Jody Clark. This was the fifth and final effigy used on UK coinage. This bullion coin comes in uncirculated condition, protected by a clear capsule or sleeve.
