Two ounce silver Unicorn of Scotland coin from The Royal Mint's popular Queen's Beasts series is the Unicorn of Scotland. The collection celebrates Queen Elizabeth II's royal and noble lineage with designs inspired by British heraldry and a menagerie of beastly statues that guarded Westminster Abbey during her 1953 coronation. The reverse of this £5 silver coin features the mythical Unicorn of Scotland. Supposedly, the Scots chose the unicorn as their emblem because the horned beast was a natural foe of the lion, which happens to be the symbol of the 'auld enemy', the English. After the 1707 Act of Union, the unicorn joined its historic rival on the arms of Great Britain. On this collectable Queen's Beasts coin, the rearing unicorn is gorged (collared) and chained to a shield that bears the royal arms of Scotland. This design is the work of the engraver Jody Clark, who is also responsible for the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II that appears on the obverse. These collectable UK coins are exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents, making them an ideal investment choice. They feature the chainmail textured background on the reverse that distinguishes bullion Queen's Beasts pieces from their proof counterparts. Struck in 62.42 grams of 999.9 fine silver, these 2018 coins have an actual silver content of exactly two troy ounces. There may be some superficial production marks on the coin owing to mass production methods, which is perfectly normal and will not affect the bullion value of the coin.
