Collectible 99.9% silver bullion one-ounce Britannia from The Royal Mint: available now in excellent, pre-owned condition. The Royal Mint issued the first of their Britannia investment coins in 1987 and introduced a line of silver coins ten years later. At first they were struck in 95.8% pure silver with a total mass of 32.45 grams. In 2013, the Mint updated this specification by increasing the purity. These coins still contain exactly one ounce of pure silver but have a lower overall weight and a slightly smaller diameter. You'll find that every subsequent silver Britannia follows this tradition. A point of continuity is the classic reverse design, featuring the figure of Britannia - the patron goddess of the British Isles - standing against a strong coastal wind, her classical garb and long hair blown back. In one hand she holds her trident and in the other a small olive branch and her Union Jack shield. This design is the work of Philip Nathan and has become a mainstay on these coins since they were first issued. The obverse shows Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The forth definitive coin effigy was used on UK circulating, commemorative and collectible coins from 1998 until 2015. It shows Her Majesty facing right and wearing the Girls Of Great Britain And Ireland Tiara. Our one ounce Britannias are second-hand, bought from reputable sellers and carefully authenticated by our expert team. Because they're pre-owned we can offer them under the VAT Margin scheme, meaning you get a better price for a like-new coin, graded Extremely Fine or better.
