1983 Two Pence "New Pence" PCGS MS64RD
When the United Kingdom went decimal in 1971, the new two pence coins bore the words “New Pence” to distinguish the new decimal coins from the old pre-decimal coins. A new two pence design was introduced again in 1982, but a very small number of coins escaped the mint in 1983 still bearing the old design. These coins are described as mules, and are today keenly sought-after by error coin and British coin collectors. The exact number that were released by mistake is not known, but PCGS has graded just five coins (6/25). If you’re a collector of error coins or mule coins, and are looking for something new to add next to your mule dollar or wavy “2” twenty cent, this coin is an ideal addition to your collection. Professional Coin Grading Service is the global leader in coin authentication and grading. With over 60 million coins graded and counting, PCGS is trusted by collectors, dealers, and investors to certify authenticity, protect value, and elevate market confidence. This is a direct conversion of the 70-point PCGS grade to a 10-point scale, intended to present the grade in a more intuitive format for newer collectors. It is not our personal opinion or an attempt at regrading the coin to a different standard.
