A key British gold rarity, the 1830 proof sovereign is rarely encountered in any grade. Bearing William IV and dated 1830, the coin is only available in proof and is sometimes called a pattern. It was issued in small numbers, and although the official mintage is not known, the Rasmussen catalogue suggests that fewer than ten examples exist. PCGS has graded just five coins (9/21). Rare in any grade, and a coin to hold for the long-term. Professional Coin Grading Service is the global leader in coin authentication and grading. With over 60 million coins graded and counting, PCGS is trusted by collectors, dealers, and investors to certify authenticity, protect value, and elevate market confidence. This is a direct conversion of the 70-point PCGS grade to a 10-point scale, intended to present the grade in a more intuitive format for newer collectors. It is not our personal opinion or an attempt at regrading the coin to a different standard.
