The fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appeared on UK Sovereign’s from 1998. The portrait depicts a more mature looking Queen wearing a crown. The fourth portrait, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, featured for 17 years, appearing for the very last time in 2015. The modern British sovereigns feature Benedetto Pistrucci's design depicting George & the Dragon on the reverse. They have been struck both at the Royal Mint and at branch mints since 1817. - Each coin weighs 7.98g and is 916.7 22ct Gold. - Dimensions: Diameter: 22.05mm Thickness: 1.52mm. Other Information The majority of fourth portrait sovereigns carry a George and the Dragon reverse. There are some dates in this era that depict an alternative reverse. In 2002 and 2012, sovereigns featured a Shield back rather than George and the Dragon. In 2005, sovereigns featured a reworked version of the traditional George and the Dragon.
