This 1989 Proof Sovereign is a highly sought-after coin and was issued to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Sovereign coin. Its one-off design mirrors that of the original coin. The reverse of the coin features a Tudor rose design, and the obverse bears an intricate design showing Queen Elizabeth II seated as at her coronation. - Weighs 7.98g and is struck in 916.7 (22ct) gold. - Manufactured by The Royal Mint. - Struck to a proof finish. - VAT free and Capital Gains Tax exempt. - Diameter: 22.05mm. - Supplied in original Royal Mint presentation box with a certificate of authenticity. This was a significant year for the UK's coinage as the gold sovereign celebrated its 500th anniversary. The gold sovereign is one of Britain’s most famous coins, the first of which was minted in 1489 during the reign of King Henry VII. Due to it’s long history, the sovereign is considered by many to be the flagship coin of The Royal Mint.
