The Pre-Owned 1989 UK Proof Sovereign Three Gold Coin Set was issued to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the first gold sovereign. The set will consist of the half-sovereign, sovereign and double sovereign, each featuring a new design which was struck to commemorate the anniversary. The reverse design is a Shield of the Royal Arms upon a double rose with the inscription 'Anniversary of the Gold Sovereign 1489-1989'. The obverse of the coins shows Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II seated as at her coronation. - The total weight of the set is 27.95 grams and is 916.7 (22ct) Gold. - Diameter: 22.05mm. - Manufactured by The Royal Mint. - Struck to a Proof finish. Only 10,000 of these Three-Coin Gold Proof Sovereign Collections were struck for worldwide distribution. This was a significant year for the UK's coinage as the gold Sovereign celebrated its 500th anniversary. The gold sovereign is one of Britain’s most famous coins, the first of which was minted in 1489 by King Henry VII, due to it’s long history it is considered by many as the flagship coin of the Royal Mint.
