This Pre-Owned 2004 50th Anniversary of the Four-Minute Mile Gold Proof 50p Coin features a design symbolic of running a race, showing a pair of legs and a clock, along with the coin's monetary denomination of '50 Pence'. The coin was designed by the sculptor James Butler, who also designed the obverse of the Golden Jubilee Commemorative Medal. The obverse of the coin bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley. - Weighs 15.50g and is struck in 916.7 (22ct) gold. - Manufactured by The Royal Mint. - Struck to a proof finish. - VAT free and Capital Gains Tax exempt. - Mintage of 1,250 coins. - Diameter 27.30mm. On 6th May 1954, Roger Bannister left his mark on history by finishing his race in 2 minutes and 59.4 seconds. His feat was one of the greatest in history. However, 2 months later, Bannister's time had been bettered by John Landy, a reminder that once a physical barrier has been broken down, the psychological barrier can then also be removed. The photograph shows the type of coin that you will receive, not the exact item.
