**The 8 Austrian florin is a historical gold coin with a purity of 90% (21,6 karats). The 8 Austrian florin weighs a gross 6,45 grams and has a net weight of 5,80 grams.** ### 8 Austrian Florin The Austrian 8 florin was minted from 1870 to 1891. Subsequently, the coins were circulated as restrikes, both as commemorative and investment coins. These coins always bear the year 1892 as the year of issue. ### Purity & weight **The gold 8 Austrian florin has a purity of 900/1.000 (21,6 karats) and a net weight of 5,80 grams (0,1865 troy ounce).** The remaining 0.65 grams consist of copper. This alloy ensured that the coin was less prone to damage and therefore resistant to wear through everyday circulation. ### Design of the Gold 8 Austrian Florin The design of the restrikes follows that of the last issued florin coins from 1892.On the obverse, you see the image of Emperor Franz Joseph Charles, emperor from 1848 to 1916, also known for his famous consort, Empress Elisabeth 'Sisi' of Bavaria. Around this image is the Latin phrase 'Francisus Iosephus I. D. G. Imperator Et Rex.'On the reverse, the Austrian coat of arms is depicted. At the bottom left and right of the coat of arms, you will find the nominal value of the coin. At the bottom of the coin is the year of issue; the 'Fl' refers to Florin, German for florin. Around it is the Latin wording 'Imperium Austriacum.'On the edge of the coin are the words 'VIRIBVS VNITIS,' ('Strength in Unity'). ### Buying Gold 8 Austrian Florin The 8 Austrian florin and other gold coins can serve as a purchase of physical gold. Gold coins are not subject to VAT as they are considered monetary gold.
