This alloy ensured that the coin was less prone to damage and therefore resistant to wear through everyday circulation. ### Design of the Gold 8 Austrian Florin The design of the restrikes follows that of the last issued florin coins from 1892.On the obverse, you see the image of Emperor Franz Joseph Charles, emperor from 1848 to 1916, also known for his famous consort, Empress Elisabeth 'Sisi' of Bavaria. Around this image is the Latin phrase 'Francisus Iosephus I. D. G. Imperator Et Rex.'On the reverse, the Austrian coat of arms is depicted. At the bottom left and right of the coat of arms, you will find the nominal value of the coin. At the bottom of the coin is the year of issue; the 'Fl' refers to Florin, German for florin.
